Bandon Summer

In August a return to Bandon Resort yielded a fresh look. I had only been to Bandon with a group previously and this time it was a small family group, just 3 and for one night with a 4th non-golfer. My regular readers know how picky I am. Bandon Dunes is America's Best Resort. Nothing comes close. After the monumental disappointment that was Kohler earlier this year and with time to reflect, there is no doubt in my mind that Bandon Has the most quality golf to offer, the right amount of service, good hearty generous food and drink and even a better shower than Kohler.

My wife's brothers went fishing and missed my ace at Old Macdonald #5. No matter, there were trophies for all.

We chose to play Old Macdonald first as there was a good wind up, no real threat of rain and a fairly open tee sheet at our preferred mid morning time. First time either of us has seen the other's ace out of 6 total.

Congratulations are in order!

A really nice feller, well, a kid actually, almost 25, who is my neighbor (sort of) here and a frequent playing partner ought to be very very happy that I didn't play with him after all today. The weather report has been dicey at best for today all week, the professor had a cheap-O tee time at Lederach for four to play at 13.40 today and the redanboy and I pussied out. I don't know about him, but for me to play at 13.40 and possibly take 5+ hours and perhaps not even finish on a day unlikey to see the north side of 40* F, well, I'd rather go play 4 balls for a few holes at Lehigh and sort out some wedges. Which I did. Back to the story ...

The redanboy was playing at the Linfield National (just 0.5 Doak below Augusta National and 1.0 below NationalGLA (well, not really, more like 7) and 1-hopped a wedge on the 11th for his first ace. (The little bastard has an Albatross already). Had I played with him it would have likely not happened - that's how these things go.

My most sincere congratulations to you, Mark. I am very happy that I didn't play with you today. I'm guessing that it was with the ratty ProV1 (#2) with blue dots that he played with 2 weeks ago.

I'll have a malt, please.

Lehigh Country Club Number Sixteen




Yesterday, 20 August, 2008, Mrs. redanman scored her first ACE less than one week after watching Oliver hole out on number 15 as documented below, August 17, 2008. I was not there because even a kilt would not have allowed me to play the Lehigh Women's Invitational during which she scored the perfect shot.

She has been waiting, very impatiently I might add, ever since hitting a near miss at Black Diamond Ranch Quarry #13 and then watching Stephanie Vater step up and hit the exact same shot save for holing rather than a near-miss. Madame of redan was steaming and had for a few months after!

Yesterday a seven iron did the trick and Renee did indeed exhibit a bit of relief as well as such excitement that she thinks she forgot to repair the ball mark. Prior to executing the shot as the team was not at tippy top form she was heard to exclaim "Since we're not doing all that well, maybe I'll just hole in one so we can start drinking early" it is told.

HAH! true story.
